Summer Term 2023
Week commencing 19th June
What a great week! We have finished our Narnia book and the children ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! I was blown away at how gripped the children were with the entire story. I have promised the children that they can watch the film in full towards the end of term. We will compare which one we prefer.
In Maths, we have been rounding decimals and looking at halves and quarters. We will be moving on to money next week.
In Science, we have been looking at making electrical circuits. In History, we have been studying Boudicca and why we remember her. In Geography we have been studying the reasons why volcanoes happen.
I do have to add that during our Cricket lessons, I have been blown away by the talent of the class whilst learning skills and playing games in cricket. I can see a few future England internationals developing nicely!!!!
Week commencing 12th June
Another fantastic week, with fantastic weather!!
Children continue to work through decimals, this time flexibly partitioning as well as comparing and ordering. Narnia is proving to be an excellent story in our classroom. We have played a couple of clips from the film too to compare the difference in story-lines.
In RE we have been looking at the rite of passage in Sikhism. In Geography we are studying volcanoes and in History we have been continuing to look at Romans.
Week commencing 5th June
WELCOME BACK! I hope you have all had a wonderful break. We are now in the final half term before Year 5. Lots to cram in, lots of work to do and lots of fun to be had!
We began this week with a look at Decimals in Maths. Decimals is split into two sections. This time we looked at making wholes with tenths and partitioning. In English, we have started to read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe - Narnia. We're only a couple of chapters in and the children are loving it - it's truly amazing to see!
PE is on a Monday and Tuesday this term (Cricket and Athletics). We have Miss Cragg continuing to work with the class on a Wednesday morning and Madam Roche on a Tuesday teaching French.
Week commencing 15th May
5 day weeks are tough, aren't they!?
We have been learning more about decimals, this week. Adding and subtracting from wholes - we found this a little tricky so we recapped some information on place value, which helped us move forward in our learning.
In English, we have completed our independent writes: our brochures look incredible. The children are really proud of the work they have achieved and we looked forward to seeing them on display around school.
We have focused on computing in the afternoons this week. We have been coding and debugging codes using 'logo' on PurpleMash...TRICKY!!
The weather is looking incredible for the weekend and the week to follow. Please be sun safe. Bring hats and suncream to school. Thanks.
Week commencing 8th May
Another 4 day week completed - we could get used to this!!
We have moved on from fractions and entered the world of decimals, this week. Children have been looking at tenths as fractions then tenths as decimals as well as hundredths as fractions and hundredths as decimals. We seem to be very confident on this subject and are smashing the work every day! I'm impressed!!
In English, we have finished reading our book and have begun planning our independent write, which will be an advertising brochure for the modernised fishing village from our story. We have really enjoyed reading this week and the work has shown.
We have been learning more about Romans; we have studied Southern Italy in Geography as well as PE with Mr Godson, RE with Miss Cragg and Dance with Cheryl from Dance Lobo.
Week commencing 1st May
Hello! I am delighted to be back and teaching the children again after a couple of weeks off on paternity leave. I have brand-new son called Jesse, who is keeping me awake every night but thankfully Year 4 are keeping me awake during the day with their brilliance!
We are in full-swing for Maths; learning all about fractions. This week has been adding and subtracting whole amounts and fractions. Lots of conversions going on but lots of fun doing it!
In English, we continue to read The Baker By The Sea (what a fantastic book this is). This is the first time I am reading this as it is a new book added to our curriculum this year and I am so glad I've read it. The story is heart-warming and so well-written; the illustrations are fantastic to match! I feel the children have understood the book well and the writing coming from it has been awesome!
We have learnt a bit more about The Romans - how they were different from the Celts as well as learning some more about Sikhism with Miss Cragg; danced with Cheryl from Dance Lobo; Badminton with Mr Godson and Art with Mrs Freeman!
I'm so glad to be back with the children again, they're such a great group!! :)
W/C 18th April and W/C 24th April
For the first two weeks back after half term, Mrs Ashford and Mrs SB have been covering Year 4.
In Maths, Year 4 have been looking at adding subtracting fractions.
In English, we have started a new book, 'The Baker by the Sea'. The children made flapjacks and attended a 'jobs fayre' where they interviewed for various roles.
In Science, we have been investiagting forces and how sound is made. We had to decide whether it is quicker or slower, louder or quieter. For example, using instruments such as drums, shakers and a xylophone. We looked at the ear and how sound waves move around and the effect on distance and sound level.
In History, we are looking at the Romans. We looked at how the Roman Empire expanded and how they invaded Britain. We compared the Roman and the Greek armies and looked at the governance of Rome.
In Geography, we looked at Southern Italy and the geogrphical features, including Mount Vesuvius. We used grid references and atlases to describe Southern Italy's position in relation to bordering countries.
