Pupil Premium
At Church Lane Primary School and Nursery we believe that all our children have an equal entitlement, and should have an equal opportunity to:
- Develop imagination and creativity
- Acquire skills and abilities
- Have a love of learning
The school receives funding from the Government to support it in trying to meet this aspiration. This is known as the Pupil Premium. Pupil premium is additional funding, from the government, provided to schools for supporting more pupils to ensure they benefit from the same opportunities as all other children. There are a range of pupil premium grants. These include
- Children who are eligible for free school meals (FSM)
- Children who in the last six years were eligible for free school meals (Ever 6)
- Looked after children
- Post looked after
- Armed forces children
- Early Years
Principles
- We work to ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all of the pupils
- We work to ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups
- In making provision for socially disadvantaged pupils, we recognise that not all pupils who meet the pupil premium eligible groups will be socially disadvantaged
- We also recognise that not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged fall into one of the eligible groups.
- We reserve the right to allocate the Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil or groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified as being socially disadvantaged.
- Pupil premium funding will be allocated following a needs analysis which will identify priority classes, groups or individuals. Limited funding and resources means that not all children that meet pupil premium criteria will be in receipt of pupil premium interventions at any one time
- We ensure we involve parents as a central part of the process through our Record of Achievement Plans and consultation meetings to ensure the needs of the whole child are considered and included in all our work.
Provision
- The range of provision the Governors may consider making for this group could include:
- flexible class sizes and groupings thus improving opportunities for effective AfL and accelerating progress
- additional Pupil Champion time
- Providing small group work with an experienced teacher /TA focused on overcoming gaps in learning
- 1-1 support
- additional teaching and learning opportunities provided through learning mentors, trained TAs or external agencies
- Pastoral support on a 1 to 1 or small group basis
- Practical support to overcome barriers to accessing the school life to the full eg. school uniform support, emergency support
- Access to well researched and quality assured intervention packages and educational resources eg, Read, Write Inc, Numicon
- All our work through the pupil premium will be aimed at accelerating progress moving children to at least age related expectations and beyond. Initially this will be in communication, English and Maths.
- Pupil premium resources may also be used to target able children to achieve mastery with in their age related expectation
- Provision will not be aimed at providing support for those children identified as having additional needs. SEN delegated funding should be used for this purpose.
Reporting
It will be the responsibility of the Headteacher, or a delegated member of staff, to produce regular reports for the Governors’ on:
- the progress made towards narrowing the gap, by year group, for socially disadvantaged pupils
- an outline of the provision that was made since the last meeting
- an evaluation of the cost effectiveness, in terms of the progress made by the pupils receiving a particular provision, when compared with other forms of support
The Governors of the school will ensure that there is an annual statement to parents on how the Pupil Premium funding has been used to address the issue of ‘narrowing the gap’, for socially disadvantaged pupils.
