Well done Year 4. It's a difficult time of year as we head towards the excitement of Christmas but it's business as usual here and we continue to work towards our writing targets with sentencing and paragraph building in English. We continue to learn and challenge ourselves in Multiplication and Division.
We have finalised most of our non-core lessons and will complete our end of unit quizzes next week.
Week commencing 4th December
Week commencing 27th November
A strong week in Year 4. We have been practising all of the times tables and their division facts. The competition is fierce and at one point Mr Barratt slipped into third place on the 'Hit The Button' leaderboard. Thankfully, normal service has resumed and Mr Barratt sits atop the tree (where he belongs).
We have been completing our independent writes in English. We have written our own adaptation of FArTHER. Some of the inventions have been outrageous but watch out Dragon's Den, there's some incredible inventions coming your way!!
We have been looking at the digestive system in Science and how our body absorbs food, this will lead on to how our body uses food next lesson. We continue to 'sing' in Music - to quote one pupils "we sound like dying cats" -- more practice needed then! :)
Week commencing 20th November
In Maths, we have been learning our 11s and 12 times tables and their division facts. We have lots of competitions happening in class - who can be the best at their tables and can anybody beat Mr Barratt at 'Hit The Button'???
In English, we have been trying to make our sentences more coherent. We have been trying to link sentences with conjunctions and expand the noun phrases we have been writing.
In Geography we have been learning about different types of mountains. Our focus in History has been around the RAF and their influence on Lincolnshire. We continue to problem solve through OAA in PE.

Week commencing 6th November
Welcome back!!
Where have my class gone?! I have seen a MASSIVE change in maturity and attitude this week. I feel we have well and truly understood the remit of being a Year 4 pupil and I am so impress!
In Maths, we have begun Multiplication and Division: looking at the 3 and 6 times table with division facts. It is very important that the children regularly learn their tables as this will stand them in good stead for the rest of the year. When writing tables out, its important to write the calculation too as this will assist their brain in recalling the facts (1 x 2 = 2; 2 x 2 = 4 NOT just writing 2, 4, 6, 8 etc...)
In English, we have started a fantastic new book (FArTHER). A very emotive story. We have been learning about abstract nouns and creating abstract noun phrases and soundscapes.
We have started our Islam unit in RE, and learning about the body in Science. We continue to learn about Lincolnshire in History and we are learning about Volcanoes in Geography.
Week commencing 16th October
This week, we have continued our Addition and Subtraction unit; moving onto subtraction. Again, calculating both non-exchange questions and exchange questions. We also looked at efficient methods, which is usually a tricky area but this class smashed it! WOW!!
In English, we have decided to write a alternative version of Varmints. We have focused heavily on description, with the children working hard on expanding sentences and joining them with sophisticated conjunctions.
We have learned more about the local area in our Lincolnshire History topic and will continue to do so after half term. Miss Cragg has completed our science and RE unit as has been 'enjoyinhg' music lessons - a bit more practise needed :)
Week commencing 9th October
Another great week from Year 4.
In Maths, we have begun our Addition and Subtraction unit. Our main focus has been addition up to 4-digit numbers: looking at non-exchange and exchange calculations.
In English, we have started to look at Varmints. This unit is mainly based around the movie of Varmints but we read the book alongside it. It is an abstract style clip, open to many interpretations but the children have adapted well to this unique style of video.
Week commencing 2nd October
I feel we're really beginning to shine as a Year 4 class. The children are showing excellent maturity in the social skills as well as great resilience and determination in their academic work. This is our most positive week yet!
In Maths, we have finished our Place Value unit: finalising our knowledge of rounding and value. It has been a tricky unit but again, the children have shown determination to get through the unit with great success.
In English, we have also finished our independent write; writing the sequel to Tar Beach. It has been a positive experience considering it is the children's first independent write in Year 4.

We have found out how we produce food, as humans, in Geography and looked at the importance of Cogglesford Mill in History.
The children are continuing to learn about the Christian faith in RE, days of the week in French and netball in PE.
Week commencing 4th September
WELCOME BACK!! or WELCOME TO YEAR 4!!
It has been lovely getting to know the children this week. We have had a very relaxed week; making sure we know expectations; getting back into the swing of things and taking the lessons we have done very slowly to ease ourselves in.
We have completed a couple of Maths lessons - looking at numbers to 1000. In English, we have begun reading Tar Beach: a fantastic book that started its life as a quilt, which is now hung in the Guggenheim in New York.
