Spring Term 2021

Spring term medium term plan

Home learning Timetable for Spring Term 2 - New timetables for any home learners will be added weekly to the home learning page (year 2)

W.C. 29.3.2021

Year 2 have had a busy last week of term. We are sorry to see us breaking up for the holiday when we are all back into the swing of things!

In Maths we have completed our recap learning on addition and subtraction. Lots of children were crossing the tens to add and subtract with two digits! We were also getting into the habit of efficiently adding three single digits by adding our number bonds first. Great job!

In English we have taken on the role of 'the cat' in the story of The Great Fire of London. Everyone was especially good at getting into character and taking the hot seat about what they had seen in September 1666!

Our favourite part of the week had to be making bread and butter pudding as Bakers in our Pudding Lane Bakery. I think King Charles 11 would have found the dish simply delicious!

Enjoy a well-earned rest and some Easter Chocolate. See you on April 19th.

W.C. 22.3. 21

This week has flown by! We are all getting back into routines and there has been a great attitude to learning all round. Well done year 2. Great to see so many house points earned.

In maths we continued to recap our addition and subtraction skills! We have enjoyed using different methods and exploring which we find the most efficient. There has been some amazingly accurate column addition and subtraction, some children have been carefully crossing the tens and presenting like true mathematicians! The white rose links for any further recap are: Autumn Week 8 - Number: Addition & Subtraction | White Rose Maths

In English we completed our bear fact files finishing with some very interesting facts! The grizzly bear drawings will complete your hard work. What experts you have become! We also started our new text ‘The Great Fire of London’ by Emma Adams and James Weston - Lewis. There was great enthusiasm to become historians and travel back in time to our capital city, London. We have been busy recapping how to write longer sentences and finished the week as historians interviewing Thomas Farriner (Pudding Lane Baker from 1666). It has been great fun and the children had so many questions!

We continued our science plant work, observing seeds, watching a time lapse of a plant growing and recording what different plants need to grow successfully. We also had more fun in computing by programming our robot ‘beebots’, there were improved dribbling skills with foot balls in PE and finally, thinking about our relationships with others for PSHE.

Well done Year 2, remember next week we are going to be Pudding Lane Bakers for design and technology so bring an apron on Wednesday!
Don’t forget weekly homework and spellings will be on google classroom each Monday – hard copies are available in class 😊

W.C. 15.3.2021

This week, we have been getting back into the routine of being in the clasroom.

In English, we have enjoyed completing our bear fact files. We recapped and enhanced our research to consolidate our plans. Everyone worked hard to include the features of report writing and showed an impressive stamina to write! Keep this up. Subordination and co-ordination were included and some fantastic technical language. Year 2 children are definitely becoming experts in all things bear!

In Maths, we have been reviewing and improving our addition and subtraction skills. This week we have explored: adding and subtracting 2 digit and 1digit numbers and also two 2 digit numbers. It was great to see the children put into practice their understanding of place value and number bonds to help them to solve calculations.
In Science, we have continued to learn about plants. We have been reading about and Identifying common UK plants (garden and wild) and describing what these plants need to grow. We planted our own seeds, observing them carefully and predicting how they will grow. We also recorded the plant lifecycle. In computing, the children enjoyed programming the bee-bot robots and some super partner work was observed.

Thank you for the comic relief donations – super heroes, red wigs and red noses made everyone smile 😊

W.C. 8.3.2021
This week our whole class were back together with the return to school from lockdown. This saw the end of live lessons for some children. It has been great to finally have a FULL class back together and everyone has certainly been excited to see each other. Because of our long school closure, we have spent part of this week doing assessments. We have been impressed with your reading skills and answering mixed up maths questions!
We have continued in Maths to spend some time looking at multiplication and division. We have been rehearsing our times tables a bit more with a little push to do this in our head accurately and quickly! Well done thinking about how each division question can correspond to a multiplication fact!
In English, we have completed a letter to Mr Clay to persuade him to think about protecting our endangered animals. We have also been working on our handwriting so our letters are correctly formed.
We have allowed time to discuss how to keep ourselves and our friends safe and happy in school. We looked at our class rules and routines and we shared ideas about who helps to keep us safe. We also discussed how it feels to be a friend and have a friend and enjoyed some activities celebrating our differences.
On Friday, the whole school completed some simple science experiments as part of a whole school science extravaganza! The children made predictions and were fascinated to observe floating eggs and there was lots of fun experimenting how to inflate a ‘magic balloon’ albeit quite a lot of vinegar splattered!

Reminder:

• PE is on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for Year 2. Please come in PE kit. Remember to wear suitable trainers for the field.

•Homework is given out every Monday on Google Classroom (there are paper copies available if needed) and we will focus on Times Tables and Division until Easter.
