Autumn Term 2021

 Week commencing 15th November 2021

This week in Maths we have been looking at multiplying and dividing fractions. We have also started challenging ourselves with arithmetic work. This week we have continued looking at The Promise - exploring the concept of figurative language, including metaphors, similes and personification. 

We have explored our ideas for Design and Technology and created a design brief, before carrying our market research. We also designed our own running pattern ideas for printing. 

Week commencing 8th November 2021

This week in Maths we have been looking at Fractions. Thinking about how to add and subtract them (including mixed number problems). We have started a new book this week - The Promise- Thinking about the themes and ideas held in the book, as well as looking at antonyms and synonyms. 

In Geography we have looked at why we have seasons on Earth and why they are at different times of year depending on where you are on the globe. 

Week commencing 11th October 2021

This week in Maths we have been looking at the order of operations and we have completed our unit on the four operations. In English we have finished our story Rainplayer and we have begun to develop our own narrative based on the story.

This week we have been assessing our learning through our topics this half term as well as developing our art skills - looking at how brush strokes affect mood in art. 

Week commencing 4th October 2021 

This week we have continued to explore the four operations in Maths. We have continued our exploration of Rainplayer and looked at writing cohesively at length. 

 Our Geography has been about Afghanistan and studying why the country has strugled to develop as well as learning how to harmonise when singing.  

 Week commencing 27th September 2021

This week we have continued to explore the four operations in Maths. We have begun to explore a new text - Rainplayer - which centres around an ancient Mayan story. 

Our Geography has been about Russia again - looking at how its size makes it a unique country in the world. We continued to study classification systems this week during Science looking at the Linnaeus system. 

Week commencing 20th September 2021

This week we have started looking at the four operations in Maths. We have written our own English story based on our explorations of The Unforgotten Coat. 

Our Geography has continued with a look at where Russia is located and during History we have explored how King John was a significant monarch. We created branching databases for plant identification during Science. 

We began our Art explorations this week with a look at tone and value. 

Week commencing 13th September 2021

This week we have continued looking at Place Value in Maths. During English we have been analysing how to use the passive voice and perfect form. 

We have continued our Geography unit on Asia by looking at China and have delved in to how William the Conqueror changed the monarchy during History sessions. 

Our Science unit for this term is classifying plants and animals. 

Week commencing 6th September 2021

This week we have been looking at Place Value in Maths looking at numbers to ten million and comparing them with one another. During English we have been looking at our new text - The Unforgotten Coat - exploring the themes within and looking at how word choices can affect readers. 

We have begun looking at our Geography unit on Asia and our History work on the monarchy since 1066.
