Summer Term 2018
Mini Olympics
On Friday 22nd June, twelve children from Year 3 and 4 travelled across to Sleaford Town, FC for the annual Mini Olympics event. This event is designed to inspire pupils to take part in different sporting activities.
The theme of this years Mini Olympics was the World Cup, each school was given a country to represent in the opening and closing ceremony and we were given Sweden.
The children took part in a variety of different activities, including Archery, Judo, Cheerleading, Rowing Machine and many many more!
Y5/6 Athletics
On Friday 22nd June, eight children from Year 5 and 6 travelled across to Sleaford Town Football Club to take part in an Athletics competition. This ran alongside the Mini Olympics event for the first time!
The children took part in four events, a sprint, a distance run, a jump and a throw. Medals were awarded for the top 3 individual children as well as the top three teams!
Well done to the Church Lane team, who gave their all in their events!!
Y4/5 Cricket
On Friday 15th June, eight children from Years 5 and 6 travelled across to Sleaford Cricket Club, to take part in a tournament. The tournament was re-arranged due to the rain at the end of last term!
The tournament took the same format as the other tournaments that have already been played. Each player bowls one over and will bat two overs in a pair. No player is 'out' instead 5 runs are lost for a wicket.
The team played four games in the group stage, against Caythorpe, Winchelsea, Leasingham and Navenby.
Their results in the group stage, enabled them to qualify for the semi-finals, where they were up against Rauceby. Unfortunately, they lost the game by 2 runs...finishing in a very commendable 4th place. Well done to all who played.
KS1 Football
On Friday 15th June, six children from Year 1 and 2, went across to Carre's Grammar School to take part in a KS1 Football tournament.
The children played a number of different matches against pupils from different schools from the Sleaford area, including St Gilberts, Cranwell, Caythorpe.
The team played well in all games, making some great tackles and saves, as well as scoring a few goals. The children developed their football skills and teamwork throughout the tournament and most importantly, had fun!
Well done to all who played.
Change4Life Flight
On Friday 8th June four children from Year 3 and 4 travelled to St George's in Ruskington for a Change4Life festival.
The focus of the festival was flight. The children had the opportunity to try Frisbee and other games involving throwing and aiming at targets.
The children throughly enjoyed themsleves and learnt and developed their skills in flight.
Y5 and 6 Cricket tournament
On Thursday 24th May, eigh children from Years 5 and 6 travelled across to Sleaford Cricket Club, to take part in a tournament.
The tournament took the same format as the Girls tournament last week, Each player bowls one over and will bat two overs in a pair. No player is 'out' instead 5 runs are lost for a wicket.
The team played four games, winning two and loosing two. All children played really well, developing their cricket skills throughout the day.

On Friday 18th May, eight girls from Years 5 and 6 travelled across to Sleaford Cricket Club, to take part in a tournament.
The girls played Kwik Cricket, which has slightly different rules to normal Cricket. Each player bowls one over and will bat two overs in a pair. No player is 'out' instead 5 runs are lost for a wicket.
The girls had a very shakey start to the tournament, loosing a number of wickets early on. However, as their confidence and understanding grew, so did their skill level.
The girls played matches against teams from, Caythorpe, Cranwell, Billingborough, Horbling, Pointon, Navenby, Tatershall and Kirkby la Thorpe.
TAG Rugby
On Friday 11th May, eight children from Year 5 and 6, travelled across to SLeaford Rugby CLub to take part in the annual TAG Rugby tournment.
It was the biggest Rugby event that has ever been delivered by the Carre's outreach team, with simultanious festivals taking place for Girls and Y3/4.
In the Y5/6 competition, there were 20 teams entered in total. Church Lane were drawn against teams from Digby, Rauceby, Winchelsea, and Digby Tedder. Each team played against each of the other teams once, with the winners of each group qulaifying for the semi-finals.
The children played well, improving as each game progressed. They scored a large number of tries but this was unfortunately not enough to qualify for the semi-finals. A great afternoon of sport, well done to all who took part.
Netball v St Botolph's
On Thursday 1oth May the Church Lane Netball team played their final match of the year, the opponents being St Botolph's.
Both teams started strongly, with shots at boths ends of the court. But, it was St Botolph's who had the slicker shooting and managed to score three goals within the six minutes.
The second quarter saw the children from both teams again displaying some excellent Netball skills. The possession was very even, this time it was Church Lane who were the only team to net any goals. The gap had closed 2 v 3.
The third quarter saw some outstanding defending from the Church Lane team, they worked hard to keep the ball away from St Botolph's attacking end. St Botolph'sdid manage to get through and scored two excellent goals, from a distance. Church Lane did not give up though and were able to score another. 3 v 5.
The final quarter was very fast, both teams were eager to secure the win. Church Lane showed some great determination and were able to keep within one goal for the majority of the quarter. However, St Botolph's were equally determined and just manged to score more goals within the six minutes. Final score 5 v 8.

Mini Tennis
On Friday 4th May, four children from Year 3 and 4 travelled across to Winchelsea Primary School to take part in a Mini Tennis tournament. This tournament was for qualification for the finals, which will take place after half term.
The children all played four singles matches, against children in the same age groups from the other schools. The Church Lane children played really well, developing their Tennis skills and dveloping a knowledge of the game. The children won a few games, but this unfortunately was not enough for them to progress to the final.
