Spring Term 2016

W/C 21.3.16

Wow!! This term has flown by. In the blink of an eye we have another half term. We have squeezed so much into such a short space of time, i'm sure everyone is ready for a well earned rest and some Easter eggs!

Next term we will be looking at Vikings in Topic, Humans and animals in Science whilst also learning about Viking arts and crafts during Art and Design. Literacy we will be discovering stories from different cultures and looking into persuasive writing - the children may be using some of these persuasive techniques at home already, i'm sure. Finally, in Numeracy we are going to be continuing with measure before moving onto Shape and Geometry.

I hope you all have a wonderful time during the Easter holiday. Enjoy!!

W/C 14.3.16

This week we have begun to plan our narrative verse stories. This is based on the story "The Bogeymen and the Trolls next door". We have taken this story and will be attempting to write a sequal, a continuation of characters but more of a focus on the children in the story.

Maths, we have looked at converting and ordering measures. We have also embarked on the journey to learn to tell and write the time.

We have finally come to the end of our topic lessons - completing several pieces of work on grid references.

In summary we have had a fantastic, enjoyable week! Keep it up year 4!

W/C 7.3.16

What a jam packed week year 4 have had!! We have finished our design and technology project (as seen below). The children worked extremely hard to achieve the briliant finishes of the journey of a river and I'm very proud of the end product.

We have continued working on measure in Numeracy, we can now convert, order, find the perimeter and area but there is still so much more we need to discover, all very exciting.

In Literacy we have just begun to write our Narrative Verse stories, we have written the 'bare bones' and we will continue to write and then edit next week.

Don't forget its parents evening next week (15th March) if you wish to see me and have a chat about your child, please find time to see me in the morning or after school to book a time!

W/C 29.2.16

This week we have been making clay models representing the jouney of a river. The children have made a base layer using cardboard to create a 'skeleton' of a mountain and hills. They then went on to cover their base with clay. We will shortly be painting them and will be on display to the rest of the school next week. Well done Year 4! They look AMAZING!!

Term 4

This term we will begin to explore measurement in Numeracy. This includes looking at weight, distance, money and time. With it being such a short term, a helping hand from home looking at time will go a long way in helping your child succeed better.

In Literacy we are going to be writing a story with a narrative verse, these are traditional stories from many years ago when stories were verbally told as opposed to written down. They were told usually in rhyme to help people remember, our base story will be 'The bogey men and the trolls next door'.

We wil be continuing our Geography topic in Term 4 - particularly learning about grid references and compass points. We will be using this to link with our Art project which will be designing and painting images for the 'key' of a map.

Our Design and Technology project will be to make a clay model of a journey of a river, this will have a cardboard base and build up and painted over the term.

ICT will again be a key focus for Year 4. We will be making algorithms so be prepared for a lot of questioning from your children! :)

W/C 18.1.16

During this week we have begun discovering the written method for division. Children havebeen challenged to complete short and long division calculations.

In literacy we have looked at way of making our sentences and paragraphs better. We have added more adjectvies, used emotive language and included several different types of punctuation including inverted commas.

W/C 11.1.16

This week Year 4 have looked at the journey a river makes from 'source' (high up in the mountains) to it's end at the 'mouth' where it meets the see.

We used different materials and colours to create a collage.

Here we are making these projects.

W/C 4.1.16

Today we used the iPads to locate 4 rivers in the UK. We followed the rivers through cities, towns and villages until they reached their final destination - the sea.

iPad work in Geography

Hello and Welcome back to year 4!! It's 2016 and we're in for an eventful term.

This term in Literacy we are looking at a Dilemma Story (Fiction) and an Information Leaflet (Non-Fiction).

During the term in Numeracy we are tackling the not so scary Multiplication and Division area, this will include both mental and written forms of Multiplication and Division.

Geography is our topic for the two terms, this will draw in information about Rivers and Mountains. The children will learn all the parts of a river and the journey is takes from the Source to the Mouth. We will also be looking at safety around rivers as part of our PSHE.

For our Design and Technology project we are going to be making a clay model of the journey the river takes. This will be made with cardboard initially and then clay on top to solidify the model.

In Science we are going to be looking at Animal Habitats and Food Chains. We will link our topic to this and look at the habitats of animals around rivers and mountains.

Our ICT focus is Animation, we will attempt to make a short animated film during the next two half terms.

I'm very much looking forward to this term, I hope you and your children are too!
