Netball v Kirkby La Thorpe

On Thursday 26th May, the Church Lane Netball team travelled to Kirkby La Thorpe, to play in their final league match of the year. Church Lane were undefeated going into this match and were really keen to win!

Kirkby started the game very strongly, passing the ball well and making some great interception. Church Lane had to work hard to gain possession. Both teams had a number of shots, but Church Lane were unsucessful and Kirkby were able to score 3.

In the second quarter, Church Lane found it difficult to move the ball round, due to Kirkby's strong defence, they did not have many opportunities to score, but were able to hold Kirkby back, who only scored 2 this time!

The third quarter was much closer, both teams making excellet interceptions throughout and playing some great Netball. Neither team were able to score, with Kirkby going into the last quarter with a 5-0 advantage.

Church Lane came out strong in the final quarter, but Kirkby continued to play to a high standard. They were able to score 2 more goals. However, Church Lane were also able to score thier first of the game and it came from Daniela! Final score Kirkby 7 v 1 Church Lane.

Football v Helpringham

Tuesday 24th May, saw Church Lane play their final game of the season. Church Lane came into this game in very good form and hoping to finish the season on a high. The first five minutes of the game started at a very fast pace with both teams having good chances but Church Lane battled hard as team and started to take control of the game.

Finn had a really good start to the game and found himself through on goal from the right side of the box but last minute block from the defender denied him at the very last minute. Church Lane started to build the pressure and a long throw in was deflected in from a goal mouth scramble to give Church Lane a 1-0 lead. We kept up the pressure up until half time but could not find that second goal.

Second half began with Helpringham starting the half as a stronger team, putting Church Lane under a lot of pressure and making the defence work hard to keep the clean sheet. A Helpringham player found himself edge of the box and took a shot at goal, but thankfully it was straight at Frankie who was playing his first game in goal.

Eventually Church Lane found that second goal which game from a big goal kick that the defender missed the bounce that Sam found himself on the end of playing the pass across to Mika who slotted it home to make it 2-0.

The game was played in fantastic spirit and Church Lane finished the season undefeated in four games and finishing on a very respectable points tally.

Football v Kirkby La Thorpe

On Thursday 19th May, Church Lane come up against Kikrby, with Church Lane undefeated in the last two games.

Church Lane started the stronger of the two teams having really good possession but just not making enough chances. Max had the first real chance after taking the ball off the defender and beating the second defender before dragging his shot wide. But Church Lane finally broke the deadlock when a corner was not cleared and Milosz fired the ball into the back of the net.

Kirkby then came back strong, but our defence stood firm until a mix up in communication between goalie and defender lead to the keeper bringing down the attacker, which resulted into a penalty and was taken very well.

Church Lane made a few changes, they started to move the ball round with Finn, playing his first match for the school, finding himself on the end of a goal kick but only to hit the side netting. Max was a threat all half and with his direct running Max found himself on the scoresheet when he went past two defenders to slot the ball home in the bottom corner.

In the second half, Church Lane came flying out of the blocks and put all the pressure on Kirkby, which they stood very strong and defended very well. Mika had a great chance as the ball looped over the defence he took a first time shot but it was straight at the keeper.

The game was played in a great spirit on a very warm afternoon. Final score 2-1 to Church Lane.
