W.C. 20th March 2017

This week the children have been very busy! In English, we have started to look at more descriptive writing. This has included writing setting description, character descriptions, looking at prepositions and designing our own character! We shall begin to change this into a story opener of our own next week! In Maths, we have continued to work on Measurement and have looked more in depth at converting between different units of measurement. In the next week, we shall be finishing this topic and taking our post-tests to show what we have learnt! In Topic, we researched a contrasting locality in the United Kingdom - we looked at Fort William and this even connected to our Water Horse reading! In R.E. we have been looking at different religious symbols and their importance, this has included Christian symbols which we were able to draw and describe.

One more week of hard work to go! Well done to all the children, I am very proud of you!

W.C. 13th March 2017

This week we were finally able to show case our art work. On Friday, our Van Gogh pieces were on display for everyone to see! It was great to see our hard work pay off. In English, we wrote our final version of our Non-Chronological reports; they were all excellently written with the children able to showcase their skills that they had learnt. In Maths, we started to look at area and perimeter - we used our measuring skills to explain how we knew what the perimeter of the shape was. In Science, we had a hands on lesson working out what properties made a solid a solid, and what properties made a liquid a liquid. We were able to explain that sugar was a solid even though it had some properties that would make it seem like a liquid (it can be poured!). In R.E., we began designing our own Islamic prayer mats and well as moulding a cross which will be on display around the school in time for Easter.

W.C. 6th March 2017

Wow, we are already half way through this term! This week, in Maths, the children have been looking at time. Most of us can now tell the time to 5 minutes on analogue clocks (keep on practicing at home!), and some of us can even do to the nearest minute. We have been able to convert from analogue to digital; this has included by 12 hour clocks and 24 hours too. We shall be continuing with this for a couple of days next week. In English, we have been looking at combining our book study of The Water Horse with a non-chronological report. By the end of next week we will have written our draft of our report! In Topic, we began looking at contrasting localities. We looked at the different localities that there are and we can describe why people might want to go to each of them.

Well done, Year Four!

W.C. 27th February 2017

A very busy week! This week we have been busy doing lots of assessments! We did our post test in maths (which we all did fantastically on) and a reading comprehension paper too. All of the children should be very proud of their efforts. Also, this week, we had World Book Day! The children looked fantastic as they came through the door and into the classroom. We had Harry Potters, Oompa Loompas and even some Matildas! In Topic/Art this week, we have continued to write our biographies on Van Gogh - the children have shown that they can transfer their skills from English to other writing too. Excitingly, in English, we have been using our new handwriting books. All of the children's writing has significantly improved and they should all be proud!

W.C. 20th February 2017

What a fantastic start back to school we have had in Year Four. This week has been jam packed full of fun things. On Tuesday, we had a visit from Dan the Skipping Man which was very fun, Wednesday we had our very first swimming lessons as a class and on Thursday we had a visit from some people from STEM and Sleaford Foods who helped us to make our own burger and pizza sauces! They were all delicious, but some of us definitely like spicy food! In English we have begun looking at non-chronological reports (this had included looking at features and finding information). In Maths, we are continuing our work on statistics - this topic is almost coming to an end and we will be doing our post-test soon! We have also started our art biographies on Vincent Van Gogh which parents will be able to read alongside our paintings inspired by him in a couple of weeks!

What a busy week, have a great weekend!

W.C. 23rd January 2017

This week Year Four have been starting to look at the features of letter writing. We were able to understand that letters are written in the first person and must have the correct addresses, dates, greetings and goodbyes! In Maths, we continued to look at the relationship between decimals and fractions and how we can convert between them. We were able to round decimals to the nearest whole number and soon were able to solve word problems using all our knowledge. We will be doing our post-tests next week! In Science, we worked hard to figure out how water is cleaned and were even able to investigate this ourselves. We knew that, even though our water was transparent, it didn't make it clean enough to drink! We have also been working hard in Art to copy some of Van Gogh's art work. This week we were able to make copies of Van Gogh's Starry Night which we shall be continuing with next week.

Well done Year Four!

W.C. 16th January 2017

This week we have been busy writing our biographies on Dick King-Smith. We have written detailing all about his life including his birth all the way up to his death. In Maths, we have continued to work tirelessly on fractions. This week we have been able to convert between fractions and decimals (this was quite tricky but thanks to our place value knowledge we had!) In Science, we have been able to draw and label a diagram about the Water Cycle - we learnt that the water we have on Earth is the same as what was here when the dinosaurs were around!

Another exciting week!

W.C. 9th January 2017

Year 4 have gotten back into the swing of things magnificently! This week we have been able to find equivalent fractions using multiplication and division as well as adding and subtracting fractions within a whole (some even went past 1 whole!) In English, we have been continuing to look at the Water Horse. We have looked at how to make fronted adverbials and even started planning our own biographies on Dick King-Smith. We did our own research and sequenced his life together. In Science, we continued to look at the 3 states of matter. We looked at what is the boiling point of water as well as it's freezing point too! We, also, all did great in our spelling tests on Friday too!

Great work!

W.C. 2nd January 2017

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

We have had a great start back in Year Four. We have been busy looking at biographies and autobiographies in English and have started our book study on Dick King-Smith's 'The Water Horse'. In Maths, we have begun to look at our new topic of fractions and decimals. This week we have worked hard to look at fractions as division and have used Base Ten equipment to help to show this. In Science, we looked at the 3 states of matter; solids, liquids and gases and were able to show what the particles looked like in each state. For our Topic this term, we will be looking at Map Skills. We have started by identifying symbols on maps and even designing our own ones.

Phew, a busy start already!
